YouTube Audio Downloader: Save M4A & WebM
Download available YouTube audio without video. Learn when to choose M4A or WebM, keep original audio quality and save with your own connection.
How to download audio from YouTube
Paste a public YouTube URL into the downloader and choose a format marked Audio only. Check the actual extension before saving. If no usable direct audio link appears, start the desktop helper, check the video and choose Original audio format. The saved file goes into Downloads/Y2mate by default.
YouTube audio downloads commonly contain AAC audio in an M4A file or Opus audio in a WebM file. Keep that original track for compatible players. For an MP3-only device, use the separate local conversion steps rather than changing the extension.
An audio-only file is not automatically MP3
Sources can supply M4A/AAC, WebM/Opus, MP3 or other containers. Y2mate shows the actual extension of an available direct format. It does not rename an M4A file to MP3 or transcode it. Renaming an extension does not change the underlying codec.
Choose a compatible format
M4A is commonly supported by phones and media players. WebM or Opus support depends on your player. If your device specifically requires MP3 and the source does not offer it, choose a legitimate conversion tool for a file you are allowed to use; this site does not offer that conversion.
Bitrate and file size
Bitrate is an estimate of data per second, not a promise of audible quality. Different codecs use that data differently. File size is shown only when the source provides one, and an approximate size may differ from the saved file.
Saving audio and resolving failures
Choose an Audio only entry, prepare the link, then open the source file. Browser playback can be normal. A login-dependent, segmented or IP-bound audio stream is excluded when detectable. If a fresh link fails, consult the help page instead of assuming a conversion or browser error.
