For a playable MP4, choose a format marked Video with sound. A 1080p or 4K video-only stream needs a separate audio track and local merging.
How to download YouTube to MP4
Copy the URL of one public YouTube video and paste it into Y2mate. Check the available formats, then choose an MP4 entry marked Video with sound. Open the source file and use your browser's Save video as option if it plays instead of downloading.

MP4 with sound versus video-only MP4
MP4 is a container that may hold video, audio or both. A file labelled MP4 or 1080p can still have no sound. Check the audio label before opening a download. Renaming a silent MP4 or selecting a larger file does not add an audio track.
A combined file is convenient for ordinary playback. A video-only format is useful only if you also obtain its matching audio and combine them using a media tool.
720p, 1080p and 4K: choosing video quality
720p is often a practical choice for smaller screens and slower connections. 1080p offers more detail when the source supports it. 4K needs more storage and bandwidth and only helps when the original video has that detail. The available list comes from the source; every resolution is not guaranteed.
High resolutions on YouTube commonly use separate video and audio streams. Install FFmpeg on your computer and choose the desktop helper's high-quality mode to merge available streams locally. The website does not transcode or merge video on its server.
MP4 or WebM for your device?
MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is commonly supported by browsers, phones and editors. WebM can use VP9 or AV1 video and Opus audio; playback support varies by device and application. The extension alone does not identify all codecs.
For editing, check your editor's supported codecs before saving. Changing a filename from .webm to .mp4 does not convert the file; conversion requires a media tool and may change quality.
Why does a YouTube MP4 download fail?
Media URLs may expire or be tied to the IP address used to request them. Refreshing metadata can replace an expired link, but a network-bound link can still fail on another connection. Local parsing and downloading avoid that particular mismatch.
