How to Download YouTube Videos on PC & Mobile
Learn how to save YouTube videos on PC and mobile, choose a file with sound, and use local downloading when browser links fail.
Download YouTube videos on a phone or computer
On a phone, copy the video link using Share in the YouTube app and paste it into the browser tool. On a computer, copy the watch-page URL from the address bar. Use one video link; playlist URLs are not supported.
If the source file opens in a player, use the browser's save option. Mobile browsers may instead offer Share or Save to Files, depending on the device. Y2mate cannot force a file to save when the source or browser restricts it. The desktop helper runs on a computer, not directly on an Android phone or iPhone.
Start with one public video
Copy the watch-page URL or the share link for a video you own or have permission to download. A playlist, channel page, private video or login requirement is not the same as a public video file. Y2mate checks a single video and offers only eligible direct formats.
The availability of a format depends on what YouTube supplies at the time of your request. A video being playable on YouTube does not by itself mean an external download link is available.
MP4 quality and sound are separate choices
A combined MP4 includes both audio and video. This is the simplest option when it is offered. High resolutions may instead arrive as a video stream and a separate audio stream. Y2mate does not assemble those streams, so a 4K video-only file is not equivalent to a 4K movie with sound.
Compare the quality, container and sound label rather than choosing a technical format ID. The recommended option favors a combined MP4 when available. A 360p recommendation can reflect the source’s combined-file limit rather than the video’s highest playback quality.
Opening and saving the file
The download button prepares a source link and shows a separate, explicit open button. Your browser might play the video rather than save it. Use the player or browser’s save option if available. The site does not route the video file through its own server.
When a link does not work
Links can expire, be tied to a network address or require source-specific access. Formats with detectable IP restrictions, extra access headers or segmented streams are excluded. Other restrictions can only be discovered when your device opens the file. Refresh once; if the source is limiting access, wait rather than repeatedly retrying.
